Thanks to everyone who voted for our Peterborough lovin' holiday window display. We accepted our first place winnings with great pride since we spent weeks hacking at that glorious plywood beast!
Thanks also for supporting our first Green Friday. We were very pleased to send $270 over to Green Up on your behalf in support of projects that enact measurable local change in the face of the current climate crisis.
This Saturday, we'll be turning our attention toward another important cause.
As you likely know, Peterborough has a huge gap between what people are earning and what they pay in rent. This means precarious housing for many people, and a rise in youth homelessness in recent years.
While charity does not solve larger structural problems that contribute to poverty and abuse, it is sorely and urgently needed.
YES Shelter for youth and families is doing the work. Specifically, they are aiming to expand their successful Rise Youth Housing Program to accommodate at least 32 youth by the spring of 2020 to end youth homelessness and prevent adult homelessness in Peterborough.
This Saturday December 14th, 10% of all sales at W&L (in store and online) will be donated to YES Shelter. Local artists will receive their regular 60%, with the bulk of our profit going to YES and the remainder covering our business expenses.
We are beyond grateful that this organization exists in our community, and we thank you in advance for supporting local creatives and precariously housed Peterboroughians at the same time!

A very, very merry Christmas, Hannukah, Solstice, Pacha Ganapati, Yule, Kwanzaa, Malanka, and whatever other trouble you might get into! We hope you get to put your feet up, overeat and celebrate the people, places, and comforts you hold dearest in the whole wide world.
So much love,
Anna & Erin
