And so have we!
Many of us have slowed to meet the pandemic pace that burst our workaholic bubbles, and are not exactly in a rush to "return to normal." We're walking in the woods more, scrolling on the couch less, and evaluating our priorities all around.
Some of us are feeling smooshed under layers of pre-pandemic and pandemic-exacerbated stressors, and doing our best to stay afloat while learning, healing, and pushing for change. It's not easy out there.
Food of My People, edited by Ursula Pflug, and Noopaming - The Cure for White Ladies by Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, are available in our Local Authors section. Beautiful, durable, washable rag rugs by Ruth Dyer are on sale, and can be found here.
And after that initial pandemic push to support local and soothe our horrific existential anxiety with online shopping, we're mostly buying less too.
No really! We mean it.
Do we want to attract hordes of new customers who don't normally venture downtown and be their portal to the magic of Peterborough's phenomenal creative community? Yes.
Do we want to hire more staff, support more artists, spend more time on creative collaborations, and worry less about the bills? Yes.
Do we want to provide access to beautiful, thoughtful gifts, and fresh, exciting décor while investing in our own community instead of sending billionaires to space in dong rockets? For the love of handmade goods and all that is holy, Yes!
Installation by Anna Eidt in The Gallery of Sorts. Interested in having a solo or group show in this space? A weekend pop-up? Get in touch.
Do we want people to spend more time buying stuff just for kicks? Not really.
Okay, sort of a little bit, but like, just the good stuff, and not if it means rushing around like headless chickens. Maybe if people got paid more, and had access to affordable housing and post-secondary education, small businesses like ours and downtown economies as a whole would thrive!? We'll get working on that.
However the cards might fall in the coming years, for the moment, we're still here, with delivery, shipping, in-store shopping, and foolish videos on the internet. We'll do our best to keep evolving right along with you, experimenting with new and exciting things like our Local Authors section, The Gallery of Sorts, and new makers who will knock your socks off.
If December gift-giving is your jam, we have piled the shelves high with all your favourites, and will be very pleased to help you find just the right things for your favourite people.
Nogojiwanong | Peterborough, we love ya, and always will. We hope you're doing okay out there, and we hope to see you soon. Thanks for your continued support in all its forms,
Anna & Erin
