Linocut hand printed on Mohawk Superfine 270 gsm Eggshell paper using an etching press. 7x5", paper size 10x7"
This is one of a series of linocuts illustrating traditional folk songs from rural Ontario collected during the 1950s and 60s by CBC’s Edith Fowke—many in Peterborough County. Rob Niezen created these linocuts using both the traditional method of carving the material, and contemporary and experimental ways of mark making, including laser engraving and etching. Cross Cut is a multi media project that also includes an illustrated songbook and a music album by traditional music group Backwoodsmen.
