These incredible Ulu design keychains, by Inuk artist Talia Metuq, are made with Indigenous-hunted sealskin, seed beads, and nickel + lead free hooks.
Designed by Talia, her Ulu keychain design represents a long history of Inuit ingenuity and beauty. "Ulu" translates from Inuktitut to "women's knife" in English. The semi-circular blade and handle can be made of various materials and in various sizes and designs, dependant on use. Used to cut tough skin, blubber and meat; skin, scrap, and clean; or design and embellish, the Ulu is truly a versatile tool.
Talia Metuq is an Inuk artist and maker from Pangnirtung, Nunavut, in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Baffin Island.
